IPS, but its preference. I can't really notice the only improvement VA has over IPS which is better contrast, but I can notice all the downsides-black smearing, worse viewing angles, and weaker response time. The only VA panels without those issues are high end ones, so not this monitor since im using it and still have these complaints. Of course im ok with the tradeoff since I only paid around $135 for an open box model...

I had a 32 inch LG ultra gear VA panel...may have even been this model. I returned it. The blacks smeared horribly.
