This Sabrent USB C NVMe enclosure stands out for fast, toolless SSD swaps and a sturdy aluminum body with a larger heatsink than some rivals. With the included short cable or another proper 10 gigabit per second data cable, it can reach around 1 gigabyte per second reads and writes. Firmware updates for the Realtek RTL9210 chipset are important for stability and better drive support. The main catch is cable sensitivity, since basic or charging cables can drop speeds sharply, and the second thermal pad placement is unclear.

  • Users who want sustained 10Gbps transfers, because it reaches about 1GB/s when paired with a proper high-speed USB-C data cable.

  • Owners who like to tune firmware, because updating the chipset firmware can fix stability issues and improve drive support.

  • Laptop repairers pulling data from dead NVMe drives, because the toolless design makes drive swaps quick for retrieval and backup.

  • People expecting full speed from any USB-C cable, because charging cables or low-spec leads can cap transfers around 300-480MB/s.

  • Buyers who want a simple enclosure with no setup, because the chipset may need firmware updates and cable matching to avoid performance issues.

  • Linux users who need plug-and-forget stability, because the enclosure can randomly freeze until the firmware is updated.

Is the order of preference for this type of enclosure Sabrent, Ugreen, then Urico?
I wouldn't put Orico on any lists.

Depends on the price, but this has a larger heatsink and is the same price currently so yea orico can't compete.

Bought one 2 weeks ago and returned it because this enclosure requires the included usb c able to deliver the highest read and write speed.

Basically if gonna have other branded usb c cables (at home, spare, Apple, green, insignia, etc) connected to this enclosure, it would not deliver the expected read and write speed. 300-480 megabytes per seconds.

Maybe...just maybe I'm an outlier here as I got a faulty one but I doubt it as other reviewers had shared the same thing that I went thru
Just a reminder, USB-C means nothing (basically) when looking at cable data speed. USB-C is the plug type. USB 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 will need to also be specified along with speed certification when buying cables and trying to get speeds past 480Mb/sec (~50MB/sec, USB 2.0). To get 10Gb/sec you'll need USB 3.1 (Gen 2) or higher.

Make sense now after testing this reordered unit for the 2nd time. The read speed on my laptop shows 960mb per seconds and write at 4-600mb per second. I looked at the laptop specs and stated

USB PD confirmed, see Spec sheet -
1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power
Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)

Also, I ordered, then received n tried the Oricio variant and it ok. Not equally convenient as this one. I'll be keeping this one. Heard it more reliable

Be sure to update the rtl9210 chipset firmware which fixes some stability issues and has better support for more drives. You can download the latest drivers from https://github.com/bensuperpc/rtl...s.com).zip

You need a 10gbps usb cable, they're either called usb 4, or usb 3 gen 2, or usb 3.2... something like that. I like cable matters ones.

Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matt...B06XMY49BM I have a few of these for high speed data purposes.
I didn't realize Cable Matters offers a 10Gbps cable w/ a USB-A connector at the end. The 10Gbps cable I bought from Cable Matters actually has USB-C on both ends and it's been 2-years since I've owned and still going strong to this day 💪🏾

The cable supplied with it is great. Although it is short at 8", I'm getting 1GB/s from the enclosure. I just can't figure out where I'm supposed to put the 2nd heat pad (says to use it for SSD drives. But doesn't say where)
This thing seems very similar to the Fideco one ( https://slickdeals.net/f/18879310 ) in which case you stick the thermal pad on top: between the lid and the SSD. If there's a second pad then that's probably just a spare. The only issue with the other brand is that I can't seem to close the top with the thermal pad on, or I have to pin it down with something; I hope that isn't the case with this one.

You're gonna want to update the firmware on this. My drive would just randomly freeze running linux mint, no longer an issue with latest firmware.

Please share any designated usb c cable appropriately for this enclosure. I do want to rebuy this…not at a TB4 price point from Apple
This guy has got to be trolling lol. This can't be real.

I've had equally positive results from UGreen & Sabrent, so which ever one has the best deal when I need one is the determining factor. I've only purchased Orico once, but it was for a 2.5" SATA SSD, & it failed. Based on the negative comments on the Slickdeals forum, I would personally not use them again. Saving a few bucks only goes so far when your purchase turns into wasted time & effort.

Depends entirely on the chipset, just have to look up if recent. None of these guys design their own. Problem with 2.5" is bridge chips is that they have existed for well over a decade, lots of junk was on sale, even stuff so old that it didn't support trim. I have some decent ugreens but even those divide up by chipset, you have to check what you are buying.

I looked and I don't think that this firmware applies to this model.
