Apparently the liquid metal is what they use in the regular omens. With the omen max, they use a hybrid paste like compound, which I think has changed a few times. What they are using now and how problematic it is in terms of seeping out past the foam dam is unclear. The problem isn't just the seeping but sometimes all around poor application leading to bad thermals around 100 C.
Some thoughts on my end. The last point isn't always a problem. I have the omen max 5070 TI and both the CPU and GPU tend to hang out around 83 at high usage (cyberpunk at qhd+, max settings). CPU has spiked to 100 once or twice but it is very rare. Usually when there is a lag between usage and fans kicking in during odd circumstances.
If you do get this, it might help to repaste if you are comfortable with it. A successful repaste will almost certainly eliminate issues.
You could also get an extended warranty (e.g. 3 years) so HP foots the bill of an issue like that.
Either way, I would monitor temps with hwinfo every now and again to see if temps or healthy or if they are more 90s and above with thermal throttling occuring

Anyone got an experience with one of these? There are numerous reports online of these units self bricking. People blame the crappy liquid metal mix that HP uses that seeps into the mainboard but those that replaced the TIM still had their unite die. So I don't know

I don't have this specific model. I have a Ryzen based variant with a 5070. I've had it for a little over 6 months I think? Maybe a longer (time is a mystery). But I've had no issues with it, solid travel gaming machine.

Thanks for the info, is it the "Max" version as well? I think they use the liquid metal mix in the 5080/5090 versions, I can be completely wrong though

Got my son the 5070 version of this same laptop for Christmas and it's been a beast so far. They packed dual cooling fans into it so I wonder if these reports were due to covering the vent holes?

Maybe not a bad idea to get protection plan or something given the fact that the unit is an open box condition. Just putting it out there

Best buy but they have two types of plans. I believe I have total tech but they do have a stand alone one. heard about third party like upsie but never seen any reviews about them
