Apparently the liquid metal is what they use in the regular omens. With the omen max, they use a hybrid paste like compound, which I think has changed a few times. What they are using now and how problematic it is in terms of seeping out past the foam dam is unclear. The problem isn't just the seeping but sometimes all around poor application leading to bad thermals around 100 C.
Some thoughts on my end. The last point isn't always a problem. I have the omen max 5070 TI and both the CPU and GPU tend to hang out around 83 at high usage (cyberpunk at qhd+, max settings). CPU has spiked to 100 once or twice but it is very rare. Usually when there is a lag between usage and fans kicking in during odd circumstances.
If you do get this, it might help to repaste if you are comfortable with it. A successful repaste will almost certainly eliminate issues.
You could also get an extended warranty (e.g. 3 years) so HP foots the bill of an issue like that.
Either way, I would monitor temps with hwinfo every now and again to see if temps or healthy or if they are more 90s and above with thermal throttling occuring

I recently picked up a Lenovo legion i7 pro with the same processor and gpu and same 32gb of ram excellent condition. It was 2300 though. I have read the legion is a really good laptop but how does this compare to it? This is 600 less but is the legion 600 dollars better?

I have this unit with lower Intel core variant for about 6 months. Run solid. Run cool for a 5080. Max out all the game at 1440p. Can't speak for the long term but so far I have no issue with all other HP laptops over the year.

Excellent price.

tips: nuke the bloat and start fresh. also, primary ssd in this model requires further disassembly and repasting, secondary slot does not.
Silicon lottery, may overheat, etc.

Yes the Lenovo 7i pro is a solid build which has better heat dissipation and the 5080 draws more power at 170W which makes makes it better for gaming.

I have the Ryzen version of this laptop and I don't have any complaints about the trackpad. What don't people like about it?

Mine was very new and looked new. The only thing was a scratch on the power adapter. I always OPEN the item on the spot to check it and make sure nothing obvious is broken, screen etc boots up etc.



I am so far happy with it but I need more power.

fyi heads up these laptops use the liquid metal hybrid. it was a pain to remove cleanly but i put a ptm sheet on there instead. Most of my liquid metal was already off the die!
