Be aware that these are OEM CPUs. MSI does warrant them for 1 year if you purchase them with one of their motherboards at the MSI USA web store, though. It still remains to be seen if their warranty service will actually be any better than ASUS, AsRock, Gigabyte, et al.

If you live outside California, the discount is likely bigger than it appears. MSI's USA webstore doesn't charge sales tax to non-California residents (they didn't charge it on the order I placed back during Black Friday, anyway).

I know many/most don't have a Microcenter, but it does confirm the deal that they're giving you with their similar combo plus 32GB of memory.

This is a good deal if you have the need for the mobo. The x870e is ~$260, so it'd put the tray 9800x3d at ~$360.

You can examine Microcenter's bundle options from their website. For example, if we take out the $250 for 32GB of Corsair CL32 DDR5 6000 memory (I would argue that today, that's a pretty good price btw), the sum total for a 9900x plus a x870e Tomahawk is $480 vs MSI's $554. Of course, it's not "MSI only", so other combos have different motherboards from different vendors potentially. I stuck with a Tomahawk example because that's what was mentioned specifically in this thread.

I think if you need the motherboard its a good deal, but if you are shopping for just the cpu and already have a motherboard, then its pretty similar or very slightly cheaper than a retail cost of a cpu.
I bought a newegg combo deal in Dec, for the memory, and sold this exact motherboard. I made $170 on a brand new sealed motherboard on ebay after shipping and fees.
If i bought a $400 9800x3d, and I spend 240 on the motherboard and make 170 off of a resale, that leaves me at 470 for a 9800x3d. Amazon currently sells it for 443, so after tax, Amazon would be almost the same cost, but i would get a 3 year warranty on a PIB instead of a 1 year OEM warranty.
On a x3d chip, the warranty extension might be a bigger consideration than a non x3d
