Depends on what type of hole you're trying to lubricate and the type of operating motion.
The astroglide lubrication fluid in question is designed to facilitate low to medium friction oscillation at ambient body temperature while this silicone lubricant is designed to achieve lubrication at a much higher temperature without thermal breakdown.
The operating motion is also important to keep in mind due to shear forces, are we dealing with high speed rotation or low speed reciprocation?
Because one is designed for heavy loads (silicone lubricant) while the other (astro) is designed to deliver loads.
CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant is a versatile spray for reducing friction on wood, metal, and rubber, with strong use cases around garage doors, squeaky hinges, vinyl windows, windshield wipers, tools, and even speedcubing. It is also described as moisture resistant, rust preventing, and easy to apply and clean up. The main caution is that it should not be used on plastics, and it can collect dust and dirt into a gunky film. A few notes also mention a strong chemical smell and that the can may not include the thin red spot spray straw.
people maintaining garage door hardware because silicone spray made their garage door about 95% quieter by lubricating the hinges.
speedcubers who take apart a cube and spray the touching sides because one commenter reported an "absolutely insane" improvement over a stock Rubik's Cube after spraying all the contact surfaces.
DIYers trying to lubricate for high-temperature conditions because this silicone lubricant is described as designed to achieve lubrication at much higher temperatures without thermal breakdown (as opposed to products meant for low-to-medium friction oscillation at body temperature).
people buying it for headlight restoration results because commenters suggest that for longer-lasting headlight outcomes, a restoration kit (or clear coat wipes/kits) is the better approach than relying on this lubricant.
people using it on garage doors who want a cleaner, longer-lasting film because one commenter says it will collect dust and dirt and become "gunky," recommending thinner-film garage-door-specific sprays instead.
people expecting it to work like a true lubricant for their specific use case because one commenter says it behaves like heavy-duty WD-40 and is "useless as a lubricant" for them.
people who need spot-spray control from the can because one commenter reports their can (from Amazon) did not include the thin red straw normally taped to the can for directing spot spray.
It works well for keeping tools rust-free, lubricating garage door hinges and slides, quieting squeaky parts, and helping with vinyl windows and windshield wipers. It is also described as moisture resistant and non-dirt attracting, which helps it stay cleaner in use.
It is meant for heavier-load lubrication and higher-temperature use without thermal breakdown, while WD-40 is described as mostly solvent with only a small amount of oil. Astroglide is described as better for low- to medium-friction oscillation at body temperature, so the right choice depends on the motion and heat involved.
The Amazon version reportedly did not include the thin red straw taped to the can for directed spraying. If you need precise spot application, that missing straw matters.
Is this stuff any better than WD-40 at temporarily defogging car headlight lenses? As per YouTube, I tried using WD-40 on my headlight lenses but it simply doesn't last very long. I know that this is the lazy man's solution but that description fits me to a tee.
Dude forget all that lazy social media garbage.
If you truly need a very basic solution I would recommend just getting those 3M or Cerakote headlight clear coat wipes. In a lot of situations they can fill in slight surface imperfections with just the wipe.
Otherwise, just get either of those kits (they're not difficult to use) and just do it properly.

This is a super-niche use, but I remember back when I was deeply into the Rubik's Cube hobby, there was nothing better than this spray. Absolutely insane improvement, even over a stock cube, if you took it apart and sprayed all the touching sides with this. I'm sure there are other great products these days, but I will never see one of these cans and NOT think of speedcubing.
The one I bought from Amazon does not come with the thin red straw normally taped to the can to direct spot spray, has this been the case for you received these from Amazon?
