No this is correct. They are designed to pass power into something. Think something like a battery tender mounted permanently inside a car/boat/cart/RV/trailer. You take an extension cord plugged into shore power and plug the end into this.
Or any application where you might say "Man I wish I could put an extension cord through that wall but a hole would be ugly"

Have used these on two storage sheds just for inside lights and small things. This fastened to side of shed (2" hole, screwed in, lil silicone caulk around outside seal for good measure). Extension cord from outside house receptable to this. Then inside shed I have a small power strip plugged into other end of this thing.

Here's a little trick I've learned that put these to great use if you have a steel job box; if you drill a hole in the side of the job box to fit this outlet, you could drill 3 holes through the box itself to secure it. It's pretty waterproof too.

With the outlet in place, you could safely run a extension cord to the job box while having it locked. I use this at a industrial site to charge my power tools. Super useful.

It sucks I just bought a generic one for 20 bucks a few days before this highly specific deal though, what are the odds!

These create a way to get power to a shed etc w/out a sloppy hole. It looks nice & works great. Have bought several.
