Got it last time when on sale. It does what it designed for. However, it's not waterproof as it suggested. It died after I did a quick rinse over the faucet.

Not bad. Not truly instant; more quick. Does the job for a relatively cheap one. Feels solid. Been using one for around 6 months. Great if you don't want to step up.

Yeah, it's frustrating as SD's Price Intelligence Graph is often wrong/non-sensical. CCC shows this hasn't been below $9.99 in a year. But that often doesn't account for coupons/promos. I bought this in 3/25 for $3.99 after $16 coupon/promo. I don't disagree with your point though…I've seen many posts here (I won't call them "deals") go FP which are not close to being a "deal."

Does this default to Fahrenheit? My current one (different brand) defaults to Celsius and I have to switch it every time. Not a huge deal, but annoying.

yep same here. I have bought a ton of these over the years, they last a year or two, then toss them out and replace. They are surprisingly accurate for how cheap they are. Most are off 1 or 2 degrees high vs a glass of ice water, about as accurate as you can realistically get for the money. I love these things for the price they're fantastic.

how do you guys clean the tip on this? Surely just running water over it isn't enough after it has been inside meat.

Dishwashing sponge with a bit of soap, and wipe it dry before folding it back in.

Unless you choose to change it, it will stay on Fahrenheit. It actually just stays on wherever you have selected, unless changed.I have one, for $5-10 it's worth it. Not "instant" but a few seconds isn't going to ruin Thanksgiving so to speak.
