This is a "receiver" by the flimsiest of definitions:

1) No AM tuner (only FM)
2) No HDMI inputs or outputs (no video i/o for that matter)
3) Only does 2 speakers at a time

The fact that this "receiver" has to advertise there's a built-in DAC means it's more of an integrated amplifier than anything else!
This device is only for someone who does audio only or has a dedicated audio room. For the same price, you can get a real receiver like the RZ30!

Good Deal, it's even $69.99 cheaper than the regular price for the Factory Refurbished.

Out of curiosity, what is most appealing about this product to you?

It's a 2-channel stereo receiver for hi-fi music listening, not an AVR. AM radio is obsolete and doesn't belong on a system like this. The inclusion of an FM tuner is what defines it as a receiver, not an integrated amp.

Whatever you call it, the heavy discounting here doesn't bode well for newer products like Onkyo's new Icon A-50.

Don't bother feeding the onkyo fanboy troll he doesn't know what he is talking about.

1) people have been calling integrated amplifiers "receivers" for over 50 years, long before video switching was a thing.

2) this one actually does have an AM tuner, which is a weird flex anyway

3) the DAC in this unit is better than Onkyo he suggested

Onkyo fanboy? I think turne and supermanrob will beg to differ but I digress...
You'll have to tell me what DAC is in the Icon A-50 to make your statement. As far as I can tell, they're both 32-bit 768kHz DACs and I'm just missing the DAC model for the Onkyo to compare DNR and THD+N.

But how do you listen to your favorite AM radio stations on the A-50?

You're very judgey for someone I've only interacted with in this thread. You must be a troll on a burner account or not very good at reading. Check my posting history and prove I'm an Onkyo fanboy!

Let me know if you need help moving those goal posts.

First you the dogged receiver for not having AM radio, then when I pointed out it it does and the value is in the DAC you switched to a different more, more expensive Onkyo product without an AM radio. Now you are personally attacking me.

I've been into audio for over 50 years and never heard anyone refer to an integrated amp as a receiver unless they were very new to the field. It's never been difficult to figure out if there is a tuner onboard to make it a receiver instead of an integrated amp.

integrated amps and avrs are very different things. one is for music the other for home theatre. you're being weird for no reason.

Agreed. I probably shouldn't have bothered commenting on 2CH receivers. The fact that this Yamaha hit my deal alerts was very deceptive.
Being called an "Onkyo fanboy" served as a source of humor at least.
