These are great in soup with chicken and whatnot. $1.30 for 1260 calories is *really* efficient.

if you go to south asian grocery store, they sell 4 lb and 7 lb packs on sale (called masoor daal) few times a year. Per pound it comes to be about a dollar. This is not a good deal unless you want to try a small qty.

I've never tried the red variety. I like lentils though and they cook way quicker than normal beans.

Every time I hear lentils, I think of Neil from the Young Ones...

any clue how the ones from asian grocery stores compare to the ones at whole foods in terms of taste and quality? if they're the same, i'll probably start getting them from the asian grocery stores

they turn yellow when you cook them fyi. you might have had lentil soup that look yellow -- if so that was probably made with red lentils

supposedly, red lentils cook fast and dissolve into a creamy mush, ideal for thickening soups, dals, and curries, while brown lentils are heartier, hold their shape longer, have an earthy flavor, and are great for salads and stews where texture is desired; the key difference is texture, with red breaking down and brown staying intact.

These are shelled (half) lentils that provide crap-tons of fiber to anyone's diet. If you are listening and want a healthier diet ... buy as much of this as you can afford. Your colon will than you later!

Red lentils dissolve in like 10 minutes. Brown lentils I like for soups, for salads and just general eating I like the texture of french green and black lentils the best.

The high levels of glyphosates will thank you as well.

Common sense shows that these are removable by the consumer.
