I'm curious, for those who use this, why do you use this compared to regular home internet plans from other companies. In the starlink plans I see it's much more expensive compared to other companies.
I can see if you live off grid or far from the city it can be helpful, but other than for this reason, not much else right? Just wondering that I don't miss it's real main purpose

I don't have an Xfinity cable long enough to unroll five hundred highway miles to get me to my place in the mountains, with said place having zero Internet providers and barely-if-any cellular service. I like having Internet access whenever and wherever, pretty much on demand. If you go to areas with little service or simply hate hotel Wifi, good choice. If you never leave the Wifi jungle, Starlink likely isn't for you.

I am tempted to get this as leverage again Comcast. They kept jacking up the price but I don't have viable alternatives. If I get off Comcast for a few months, I will be a "new" customer, and get better prices.
I don't have much desire to limit my consumer choices to companies run by people who think just like I do. I'm ok with a bit of diversity here and there.
I buy whatever product I think is best. It's led to a lot of great experiences. I'd buy another Tesla in a heartbeat—by far the best cars out there right now.

Fiber ends 7 miles from me. That fiber is $100 for the cheapest plan and is 100/20. Fiber in the next closet town is faster, but the only plan is $20 base fee plus $0.13 per 1GB of use. My only choice for internet is satellite or cellular from towers over 10 miles away. Cellular is what I used for almost 13 years, less than 12 Mbps until about 2023, 2Mbps for a lot. Wildblue satellite prior to 2012, 512Kbps plus cap.
Bottom line is, lots of areas don't have access to better options. Even here in town, Starlink is cheaper and faster, was even before the new plans. And as far as portable, not everywhere has a good signal that works almost everywhere, on one provider.
