It's got a 2 stroke engine with a pull start. Make sure you turn your kitchen fan on /s

Very good question. If I were dropping $1700 on a blender then I'm not going to appreciate gimmicky advertising. The specs even say this blender is 1800W (i.e. a typical outlet's capacity). That's less than 2.5hp.

They claim it that way because they say it is the "peak power" the motor can do very quickly but not the overall power that it does the whole time.

So it probably pulls more than 1800W worth of power in quick instances like when it hits a big frozen strawberry, but not enough power/long enough spikes to actually trip the breaker.

This, Vitamix used to advertise the commercial 110V VitaPrep 3 as 3HP as well. Always figured it was a capacitor that could momentarily provide a power boost beyond the standard 2.2HP Vitamix motor, due to voltage limitations.

Technically, the stall current of this universal motor can pull 9.76HP worth of power. Its actually a 9.76HP motor, for a few seconds.
