Stranded copper. I recently ran the 14ga for my rears and it works fine, seems like good stuff. I paid $38 for 200'.

Good deal for those who are running insanely power-hungry speakers or looking at massive lengths (100ft+) for most people (8ohm speakers, less than ~120w, less than ~50ft runs) the really cheap Amazon basics 16gauge (about $10 for 100' currently) is likely sufficient. Again this is a good deal, but notice the gauge.

I purchased this very item two months ago to add in-ceiling Atmos speakers... and promptly returned it after comparing it to actual 12-gauge copper speaker wire I purchased by the foot at Lowe's (or was it Home Depot?) 20+ years ago when I first purchased my house and set up the media room with 7.1 in the walls. This Amazon Basic has the outer plastic insulation that makes the diameter look like 12-gauge, but inside it only looks to have about 1/3 to 1/2 of the amount of copper in it compared to my existing 12-gauge.

Pure copper is what You want, this is it, You combine this with banana plugs and your all set, even if it is not true 12 gauge, still better than copper clad aluminum any day.

"Even if it is not true 12 gauge"?....I'm not passing judgment on this, since I haven't used it, but if it's not really 12 gauge wire, then it's being falsely misrepresented, and that's completely unacceptable under any circumstances!....regardless of it being better than copper clad aluminum (which is crap).

Your evaluation doesn't seem very scientific, but you may be right. I have a difficult time trusting any "Amazon Basics" product!

I have used less than 12 Ga in a few installs, to be honest I did not notice any difference, now that being said, if it was a long run, (say 100' or more), I would really look for and use 12 gauge or even better. I really don't think any problems would arise from 13 or even 14 gauge of pure copper at less than 100'.
