Couldn't you use this for regular electronics and just not charge your robot wife with it?

Feel free to point to a better $9 surge protector. And please just 'pass' on the the throw away "how much is your stuff worth" or "JuSt sPeNd a lItTlE BiT MoRe" reply.

I know nothing about this, or electricity details in general lol, does this just mean that it won't protect quick enough? Or does this mean it will pass too much of a "surge" before tripping so can still allow damage? Or does it mean something else I'm not comprehending? What is a better number to look for?

From Google's AI Overview: "If a surge protector has insufficient joules,
it will fail to absorb a large, high-energy surge (like nearby lightning), leading to potential damage to connected electronics."

2000-4000 is recommended for high-value electronics.

Hos many joules is the typical robot wife? Is 1080 joules sufficient?

Nobody commenting in these threads does but they keep repeating the same thing over and over again anyway.

Joules is a measurement for how much energy the protector can absorb before it fails, over time. This is typically a measure of its longevity. More joules means a protector will protect your devices for a longer period of time. 10 years instead of 3, that kind of thing.

Here's a whole pile of papers on surges.
https://www.nist.gov/pml/quantum-...evelopment.

Other important notes, surge protectors will not protect your devices from a direct lightning strike. Most failures from surges don't come from power but surge voltage across telecom lines. Protect your telecom connections. Clamping voltage isn't really that important as long as it's 1200v or less. Being UL rated (or equivalent) is the most important part. You don't want some cheap electronic device catching fire and burning down your house.

It means that any amount over that is passed to the device (frying the surge protector and the device)
Small electronics (alarm clock, bedside light) require 1,000 to 2,000. TV and other larger devices require 2,000 to 4,000.

Hardly ANY electronic item would be adequately covered from surges with this
