Water repellent and not waterproof. DWR, which is coating on the outside only, is okay for light rain, but for heavy rain, an inner membrane like Gore-Tex would be needed to stay dry, as the force of heavier rain would push through the DWR and eventually get wet inside.

Thanks for posting that it's not waterproof. Learned the hard way on a trip to Oregon that my old waterproof shell isn't waterproof any more. ☔😭

It does say DWR coating but on the materials list it states waterproof/breathable nylon shell. REI does have a 1yr return policy so you can always return if not happy with it. Someone in the reviews said they walked 6 miles in rain with no issues.

Have you tried nikwax to restore the waterproofing on your shell? I've tried the duo detergent pack on old Goretex jackets and it did a pretty good job of restoring the beading properties.

I haven't tried anything, but your post prompted me to look it up and there's a limited lifetime warranty. 🤞🏻 I'll try that first and then go to detergent, so you probably just saved two jackets from the landfill.
