This 11 inch Winco stainless steel fry pan is a pro style, induction compatible skillet that shines when used with oil or butter and proper preheating. The stainless surface is not non stick by default, but it can brown food well and build fond for sauces, and eggs can release cleanly with a light coating and good technique. The pan is described as a solid deal at this price, though it is a step down from tri ply cookware and needs more skill than coated pans. A practical pick if you want stainless performance over easy cleanup.

Common Questions (4)

  • No. It is stainless steel with no coating, so it is not non-stick by default and needs oil, butter, or lard plus proper technique to reduce sticking. It can be used for browning and building fond for sauces, which is harder to do in non-stick pans.

  • Preheat the pan until a drop of water beads and moves around, then add fat so there are no dry spots before the food goes in. A light coating of butter or oil works well for eggs and proteins, and practice matters; gas heat can help.

  • It is described as a solid price for an 11-inch pan that may last forever, and one owner calls it a good pan and good deal. It is also positioned as a pro-style stainless pan that is cheaper than tri-ply alternatives.

  • Yes. The bottom has a bonded stainless steel plate that makes the pan induction compatible, while the multi-ply construction is there for heat distribution.

This is a stick pan (unless you know how to use it)

It's stainless steel with no other coating. So by default it is not non-stick and you do need to use oil/butter/lard to create a non-stick layer between the pan and the food. With practice it is possible to regulate and limit the amount of fat needed, plenty of YouTube videos.

Some others may offer advice on whether it's possible to form a non-stick coating like that on cast iron, am not well versed enough with SS.

No, cannot be made non-stick. This is the kind of pan you use with oil to brown whatever you are cooking and, if you wish, use the fond in the pan to make a sauce. Difficult to brown things in a non-stick pan and you rarely get a fond in a non-stick pan. Winco makes good pots and pans - the kind you see in a professional kitchen. But they are a big step-down from a tri-ply pan. They are also a big step-down cheaper. I normally buy my few non-stick pans from Winco (and equal) then throw them away when the coating fails. The coating fails in ALL non-stick pans and there is no reason to spend real money on non-stick pans
Some comment that these non-stick pans are harder to clean, but I never found that to be the case because I use a stainless steel scrubbie (Like they do in professional kitchens.
Buy a small non-stick pan for eggs and switch to stainless fry pans for everything else. You'll be very happy. Solid price for an 11" pan that may last forever.

Everyone knows you can't use a frying pan in the microwave. The handle won't fit.

I cook my eggs in a stainless steel pan daily and have no issues with sticking. Use a light coating of butter or oil before you put the eggs in and you will be good. My eggs slide right out unless Im making them scrambled.

Yep the TL;DR is that in some situations you do want the food to stick and is actually a part of proper preparation and cooking.
