This is one of the best gaming laptops, if not the best. And will only go up in price from here. Most other retailers only have 32GB RAM version of this

Yes, BestBuy has a 32GB version, it's sold out anyway and price was $4000 for that. I was trying to see if there is a price match opportunity

You can try price matching $3000 price at B&H photo. Their version is 32GB RAM, but I have heard success stories. If you get/use Microcenter's credit card, you will get another $150 off. At $2850 this will be an awesome deal. Just as a small bonus, this also has Windows Pro installed(unlike other retailers)

I picked one up. I want a better machine. It's hard to keeping waiting for deals and this laptop is well reviewed so I'm gonna use this one instead. I will return the 16 HP omen Max with the RTX 5080. I can't believe I got a Windows computer that has 24Gb Vram same as my MacBook Pro total Ram and a 64 extra system memory on top. I had to switch the windows for this because I needed the GPU I can no longer survive on the mango unified memory because of the new AI stuff I want to do. Constant Video and image generation. I still love the laptop for factor because I can have it on my desk and use it next to my other computers and bring it with me if I need to that's why I'm still getting the laptop version even though it's weaker than the desktop 5090.

I picked this up a few days ago ant MC after deciding to return the 5080 Omen open box deal (Excellent $1809) due to reviews on cooling. Noise aside, the cooling of this laptop is excellent and build is quality is great. The screen is gorgeous. It's also 6400 memory instead of 5600. Windows 11 Pro, not Home. Just uninstall McAfee. Do either use their Legion software to ensure proper power usage and integrated/discrete GPU dynamic usage or go into the bios and toggle discrete. Aside from power limit and power boost settings there's no overlocking or undervolting to be had to tame the Intel 275HX temperatures out of the box. Make sure the GPU is getting 150+25 boost for the full 175W in their Legion software.

Keep your expectations on performance realistic, laptop 5090s use the same GPU die GB203 as the 5080/5070 Ti desktop GB203 but with slightly less SMs than the 5080 desktop, flip side is 24GB VRAM. It is NOT a 5090 desktop, it has half the SMs of the GB202 5090 desktop. 5090 laptops perform slightly worse than 5070 Ti desktops in real world gaming. I have a main custom loop desktop with a 9950X3D and 5090 water blocked, there's no comparison.

I picked this laptop up preempting the apocalypse price hikes but I do enjoy using it. I primary use it to play near my boys when we play Riftbreaker together as a family. If you can afford it, it's a great laptop.

Oh yes, definitely it's nowhere near as fast as the desktop is close to the 5080 I thought on the desktop but what I really want was just to have enough 24 gig vram on the go and not have a huge computer. I can use this at my desk or near the bed and the gorgeous screen is I think worth the trade-off as well that I can just use it anywhere and maybe I'll even play some games I think my brother has the game wukong

Calculating my ROI to justify everything that I'm doing funny we're doing the same exact thing to return the HP to get this.

I was just a little bit annoyed that the impact of loading some of the larger language, models and frankly, I just want an easier and little bit faster time on my image and video generation because I am just trying to do a lot of different iterations of work for once I perfected I probably won't need to use that this much GPU but you know time is money and I'm justifying my time doing it badly, but I'm still gonna buy it. Lol

Appreciate all the tips. I will do that when I get home and set up this Legion.!!! Damn you have a full desktop 5090 too.

No, I wanted to just get it today and I want 64GB - I saw my 32GB ram getting pegged pretty often so I figured I will just upgrade that RAM as well. there is also a 3.5-4% tax difference if I get it at BH and I wanted to just have the machine today. I appreciated the lookup but I am impatience and drove myself to pick it up right as the store opened Smilie

copying files now from my "old" Omen to this new machine to try it soon!

The $2799 maybe you were referring to a post of yours. but that was 32GB.

Ram isn't $400 to go from 32GB to 64GB but there is no Time Machine to go back to December Xmas deal either. It's still a deal for anyone who needs such a machine.

Yeah. Guys like you are really cool. You find a better deal and return your previous purchase at, I must say, the retailer's expense because then they have to spend money and resources on checking it, restoring it, and repackaging. Last, but not least, is listing them again as open box and taking a 20% loss. God bless America. You guys have no sense of honor.

Some of the generations was taking about 150-180 seconds. Now they are 70 seconds for video. This is due to the 8GV extra VRAM and ~30% more GPU cores.

One thing really weird, the Legion said it does not have a Windows Hello compatible camera? What the hell....

Appreciate your time to explain your findings. In my research, I found at least a couple sources that showed the AMD version perform AI much quicker than the Intel version...
For my budget and use case, I'll test out the Omen before making a decision to jump ship or not. Thanks again!
