The showstopper here is 8GB of soldered RAM. This is an instant "no". Everything else is very mediocre.

Searching for unsoldered ram in a consumer grade laptop in 2026 is basically a hopeless cause. So much so I am not sure why people pretending to be in the know keep beating their chests about...the expectation is just plan silly at this point. Would be a like a paleontologist searching for a living T-Rex in the wild....we wouldn't take him seriously either Wink

FWIW, not defending the amount of ram in the base config, just the deadhorse soldered complaint

Not sure why you took "soldered" as a complaint when it was, in fact, meant to be informational. Feel free to look at any of my previous laptop posts and you'll never find me complaining about soldered RAM.

I too just trying to be informational regarding the status of a the Tyrannosaurus in 2026 Wink

FWIW, I didn't say you are personally beating this dead horse...just one of the crowd who endlessly complains about this fact of life. Such a fact of life it isn't a downside nor even informational to mention as it is the only option. Unless you can point to similar $400 laptop that doesn't have soldered ram.... that would be truly informational. Otherwise, lets just admit that water is wet, the T-rex is dead, and a $400 laptop is going to have soldered ram. And all of that goes without saying.

What part of me saying I was not complaining still makes you include me in a group who was? Was the OP "complaining" in his deal post by putting "onboard" next to the RAM? It's a giant 16" laptop so the possibility of having room for SODIMM's is there. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill.

1) OP was listing the different configuration(s) available, and "onboard" was a copy / paste, BTW, onboard means soldered so yet another reason your complaint likely wasn't required.
2) If you weren't "complaining," then you were needlessly stating the obvious, that again, has no other alternative at this price point.
3) what is a "showstopper" or "very mediocre" if not a complaint? Really?
4) And no, "giant" laptop or not, $400 laptops, even mega super big nacho bell grande 17.3" models do not normally have free ram slots (nor unsodered ram) unless we are talking about OLD models or mobile work stations generally costing $1000....as a starting point.

Regardless, thanks for pointing out water Wink
P.S. Feel free to post a similar NEW $400 laptop that has modern CPU, unsoldered ram (or free ram slots). That would be truly "informative." Anything else just feels like a very mediocre complaint.

I'm sort of tired arguing your narrative, but this laptop shows a list of $1000, not $400. It's also not a CPU like lunar lake that is not changeable, so why is it so hard to think someone might wonder?
Regardless, unless you have some insight into my brain, you've no idea what I meant. I said soldered to make a point that the 8GB was "forever memory", not complaining about it, and that an 8GB configuration in a Windows 11 laptop was a showstopper as it should be for most.
You asked, so here is a Dell 15" laptop with the same CPU for $466 that uses SODIMM (from the Outlet, but the fact is, SODIMM does exist in this class laptop).

Talk about 'my narrative?' All I did was question your clear as day complaint. A complaint with no lines to read between. I was only trying to be InFoRmAtIvE....or does that only work when you say it?

LOL...best part is, your solution to your showstopper narrative of 8GB nonremovable ram on DDR5 is find a used DDR4 laptop (notice you didn't find a similar DDR5 machine????) with the same amount of SLOWER ram yet still costs more? So no, it isn't the same "class" of laptop if someone has to step back to 2020 ram tech on a random outlet model with no model # even stating what the heck it is. And it is probably an old business class machine which...I kinda called as being the only place you'd likely find an unsoldered laptop ram in the wild Wink Not to mention the laptop in your link is, at best, just as "mediocre."

Not the slam dunk you thought it would be, eh?

Feel free to have the last word, clearly you need it.

So yet another OLD model (2023) with more DDR4 ram? Clearly you aren't the expert you pretend to be nor does anyone need your un-iNfoRmaTiOnAl analysis

It's the same year as this deal, that you are defending. In your world, a 13th gen chip isn't "modern"? I met your criteria and you're still here bashing me. Amazing... Maybe read some of the articles how popular it has become for people to start using older CPU's that support DDR4 because of the cost of RAM? In any case, the back-and-forth with you is tiring. Feel free to put me on ignore because that's what I'm doing with you.

DDR4 must be confusing when we are talking about a DDR5 kinda situation. And 2023 is the same year? The same year as what, when Matthew Perry died? Not to mention, DDR4 was getting pretty old even back then.

From the title of link:
"HP - 15.6" Full HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5 1334U 2023 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Natural Silver"

And ignore list? LOL...okay. Sorry to continue your topic of conversation and point out how un-iNfoRmaTiOnAl the complaint was? You only listen to people who blindly fanboi everything you say?
