Arctic MX-4 is a familiar nonconductive thermal paste that is easy to apply and still works well for routine CPU and laptop repastes. It is often framed as a baseline option, with MX-6 or MX-7 offering slightly better cooling for only a little more money. The main drawback is longevity, since it can dry out and is prone to pump out effect, so reapplication every one to two years may be needed. It fits best when you already have a cooler and want a simple, safe paste refresh.

Because it isn't. This is only for people who have existing coolers and are absolutely 110% certain that they have no need for a new cooler since the TR RK120SE comes with a full well-designed cooler and thermal paste for $14 more...

This has been around for so long, it makes no sense to get... even the MX-6 is only $.50 more.

Used to always stock thermal paste at home... just in case I had opportunity to swap CPU's. I never did actually swap the CPU... but I knew I had the thermal paste ready... just in case!

None at all. This will perform exactly like the MX-4 from Arctic. If you already have some MX-4 at home, don't waste your money buying this.

MX-4 is easier to apply and performs within 1°C at idle 2.1°C at stress. In 99.9% of usage there will be no discernable difference. It's not even the cost, I'd rather have something that is way easier to apply vs marginal difference in cooling. https://www.enostech.com/arctic-m...r-of-mx-4/

MX4 is a classic and very easy to apply, but it's very prone to what's called pump out effect so ideally you should be reapplying every 1-2 years

Not sure about solid numbers but thermal paste does dry out and will not be as thermally conductive. More heat = more drying, laptops tend to dry their out and most do not monitor those temps. I've replaced dry thermal paste on many components and it definitely does help with thermal throttling.
Have you applied them to old RAM sticks with heatsinks?

Ooo I have never taken apart ram stick heat spreaders. I've never actually considered them for cooling since I use the default timings and don't do ram heavy workloads. Since those are vertical I figure those use thermal pads, if they are paste it'd be worth it? I'd assume the cooling on those are similar to SSD heat sinks. I don't think I've kept Ram sticks long enough to do so. Honestly don't know.
