Better than glass, ceramic or the viral titanium boards you see. Yes not ideal especially if your using a softer western knife.

That's what I've just learned, it's the silica content of bamboo. Best materials would be something like oak or acacia wood.

Honestly imo find a nice teak one to BIFL. I've never had great results with bamboo cutting boards over time.
