Running lots of game max settings 1440p is entry level? That's quite weird definition

Did you miss the part about "It may not run AAA games on ultra."

How does this compare to a self built PC price and performance?

So, you think there only entry level and top gpus and nothing in between? That's also quite weird.

Running games at max settings smoothly at 1440p is "entry level"? Huh?

I can't speak for Baldur's Gate 3, but for Expedition 33 it should be able to run at 60fps @1440p with DLSS on medium setting no problem. I have a similar rig (5600X + 3060 12GB) and was able to hit the frames mentioned above. Both the 14400F and the 4060 are similar to my specs, although the 4060 has 8GB VRAM compared to the 12GB of my 3060. That shouldn't be a problem for Expedition 33 though because I don't think I've seen it exceed 7GB VRAM usage.

If you're hoping to play on High/Max setting however, then you should get a rig with better specs.

A 4060 is between the 2070 and 3070 (I reference those because I owned them) so yeah, that is very decent. Should be able to play every game out there and even a lot at high frame rates. 1440p should be just fine in a lot of games with it having DLSS.Great deal for a budget build, even without the RAM prices issue in the equation.
A 4060 laptop likely isnt anywhere near the desktop equivalent. I have a 3070ti mobile 150w and it most definitely cant do ultra settings on 2k consistently 60fps+. The only caveat to his comment is "not AAA games" - guess it depends the type hes playing.

specs are fine for the price, but ive had past experience with HP OMEN hardware. They use the cheapest parts and skimp when they can. The motherboard was proprietary with problematic firmware and bios, the "80 plus gold" PSU fan sounded like a hairdryer, and the 3080 was an OEM (foxconn) that had serious overheating problems.. i had to do surgery on it to replace the thermal pads cos they weren't physically touching the VRAM.
i finally just pulled parts from it/junked the rest and built my own.. during this whole ordeal i found myself saying "oh man oh man i wish i never got this piece of junk" over and over, and i finally understood why they called it OMEN.

Looking into gaming PC's for my kid who plays a lot of Xbox games online but complains that certain games only run o PC (spoiler alert - I'm not a gamer). So this is a good deal for an entry level machine it sounds like? Not sure how future proof it is being an HP with maybe proprietary parts?
This looks to be on par with an Xbox series X on paper. You will lose the console game optimization that developers are forced into to make games for consoles etc. if he has an xbox series X, I would say this would not be worth it.

So, these specs are very similar to the upcoming Steam Machine. It's slightly more powerful and has double the storage of the Steam Machine. So hopefully Valve will price the base model at $600 max. I want that GabeCube!

Given the current economy for computer parts, this is a good but not smoking hot deal. We night not see any smoking hot deals for a while though. If I were you, I'd consider buying.

The PC should last for a few years. When RAM gets cheap again, slap some more in for a refresh.
