I bought it last time for $20. The tapes have chips so there are no third-party clone tapes yet. The new styled Brother tapes are half the length of the older version Brother tapes

Nice price but a pass for me... Not a fan of electronic stuff requiring AAA batteries.
Why on earth does something this size use 6xAAA batteries? I own the Bluetooth version and bought a power cord for $6. Could easily be usb too. Battery conspiracy?!

Mine stopped printing the label, not as reliable as their printers.

s/electronic/electromechanical. 6xAAA is a cheap way to get to 9V open-cell.

We inherited a post-2001 model that uses 6xAA but isn't anywhere as hefty as the pre-2000s ones were, and I think it wasn't compatible with the most generic of tapes back then. There were a few Christmases of homemade gifts we used it on. We still pop the batteries in and label something every couple of years. Mainly outlet covers, switch plates, breakers, etc. It's a niche use for $20, but better than my handwriting in 6-pt pitch.

But why not AA? It's the same voltage, larger capacity and these label makers have so much empty space for their size. Not to mention most people have AA batteries sitting around, not so much AAA.

I regret not buying the Dymo ones when they were really cheap before COVID. My roommate at the time got the lable maker and 10 rolls of label paper for around $15 and asked me to order one, but I brushed it off.

The cost accountants and the marketing people got together and said "who cares about the users."

Just wait until you start seeing stuff that uses 6xLR44.

Some PTouch models use 4 batteries and have issues displaying errors of low battery even if they're new. I'd personally prefer one that uses 6 so that's not an issue.

P touch type Brother printers are compatible with TZe tape. Therefore the PT-N20 is.
