anyone know how this compares to this : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085V62B78? I tried it and it did nothing for me. My issue is not falling asleep but STAYING asleep. I can fall asleep fast, but after a couple of hours, i am in and out of sleep the whole night. Melatonin in general has never worked great for me, I have tried 1mg, 4mg, 5mg, 10mg. Only thing that worked well for me is Kirkland's Sleep Aid which is basically same as Unisom. But after reading how it can increase chance of dementia after prolonged use, i stopped using it. Problem is, nothing else over the counter works for me

Maybe try melatonin gummies I found those to be the best melatonin to sleep.

does it even make a difference if it's a pill or a gummie? i thought it was just a different way of taking it, not a difference in effectiveness.

The most prominent recent negative news about melatonin (as of late 2025 into early 2026) centers on a preliminary study presented at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions in November 2025. This observational research, based on health records of over 130,000 adults with chronic insomnia, found an association between long-term melatonin use (at least one year) and increased risks of:
  • Heart failure diagnosis (about 90% higher risk compared to similar non-users)
  • Hospitalization for heart failure (more than 3.5 times higher)
  • All-cause mortality (roughly twice as high)

Observational research- this study makes melatonin sound more harmful than beneficial. I'm not arguing against the results but given that melatonin is naturally occurring and can be found in other natural foods, how strong could the association actually be?

These are dual layer, one for instant release, one for extended release. I only buy dual layer as they help me fall asleep and stay asleep.

Yeah, the one i linked to is extended release too, but it didn't help me stay asleep at all. I hate wasting money on trying all these out, as they're non-returnable.

Poor sleep leads to cardiovascular issues. People take melatonin to aid their shitty sleep. Study finds those people have worse cardiovascular health outcomes. SHOCKED I TELL YOU, SHOCKED!

literally everything has drawbacks. Sleep Aids give you dementia, Melatonin gives you heart attacks. Not getting enough sleep will kill you as well. We are basically all doomed. What's the lesser evil?

Obvious answer is just because something is "naturally found" doesn't mean it's not bad for you if you eat more of it. Arsenic is naturally found but you shouldn't eat arsenic pills.

If you will look at the research paper, in my opinion, focus more on meta analyses than one specific research paper. I assume most won't try to dissect a dense research paper to find methodology mistakes but even if you are capable and find no errors, singular research papers can almost prove anything is statistically probable with enough research papers and looking at enough endpoints. Observational studies are also easier to find correlations between variables than experimental designs.

If you want to be safe regardless, keep in mind that 5 mg is on the high side for melatonin doses as well. The norm dosage is more like 2 mg and I usually only take 1 mg.

I think all those things can also come from not getting enough sleep : P

plus best to only use it here and there not regularly
and with melatonin lower dose works better than higher
