This is typically as low as it gets, so might as well pull the trigger and turn off that deal alert.

Just do it. I looked back over my 15+ years of buying this exact program and they're almost always this price, give or take a buck.

"Use freefile!" -- if your return is simple enough for this, HR Block Deluxe is more than you need, anwyay.

"Print and file state to save $20" -- ditto above. My return isn't complex, but the state requires about 30 pages printed, signed, certified mail...the time spent printing, organzizing, and $10+ postage isn't worth it.

As always, YMMV, but I'm speaking to the target audience here. Worst tax program available...except for all the others. Check your own math where you can. It's not flawless (especially state). However, most of the errors I've found are redundancies, not major omissions, so easy to fix. The error check (ironically) finds most of the stuff the program failed to do.

Thanks! I took the plunge on the Physical: PC/Mac [Key Card] version.

I got tired of waiting for Best Buy to drop their price so I could use my $25 gift card thingy.

Even at that price I still refuse to pay to file my taxes.
Then why are you on threads for tax software that is not free?

What I said is 100% correct.

https://law.justia.com/codes/new-...%20chapter.
What you said is only partially true. It's not completely free to e-file your NY state returns unless you meet the eligibility. Section 34 of the New York Tax Law prohibits tax return preparers and software companies from charging a separate fee for the electronic filing of authorized tax documents, but you still have to pay for the Base preparation fee.

In the case of H&R Block Deluxe + State: since you have already paid for 1 copy of State, there is no additional fees to be charged. This does not equate the state e-filing process being free. The law is there to prevent tax software companies from charging hidden fees beyond the initial preparation fee.

Huh? Here the quote you have been complaining/whining about below:

Free to e-file your NY state returns - NY has a law that says the software co's cannot charge for e-filing.
I do not see ANY mention of preparation fees. He is right in saying that there is no fee to e-file a NY State return. From where I am sitting at, he is 100% correct.

Now, drop it and move on instead of grasping at straws to prove yourself correct. My state (NC) has free efile based on income levels. May be your state is the same but it seems, there are some states which allow a completely free e-file regardless of income. Nobody mentioned free state preparation at all till you did.

Semantics is important. Tax software companies do charge the e-filing fee per state, including New York State. It's only free when you meet the eligibility and must create a dedicated free account separate from the standard account.

Take FreeTaxUSA® https://www.freetaxusa.com/states/new-york/ as example: it is $15.99 in the NY State per application if you do not meet the income criteria. But if you do qualify, then both Federal and State tax filings are free.

Booo. :-) Just bought the Deluxe+State+NordVPN bundle on Jan 20th at New Egg for $24.99 (before tax). LOL Oh well. This appears to be the cheapest (at NewEgg) so far this year. Past sale prices seem to hold at $24.99 with or without bundled additional software.
Bought the premium version(no bundle included) for $37 before tax. This would have save me couple dollars

I always use online TurboTax offering that costs like $100+. Is this really going to save me all that money?
You get 5 federal files with this(may have to pay to file state, you can print and mail in State). So for me I do all my family taxes and file state via mail. It save us a lot of money.

You can do even more than five federal filings if you print and file by mail.

Last year I was lucky enough to score this at Target for $17.99 on a YMMV clearance deal at end of March but there's never a guarantee that the deal will pop up this year so I'm buying now. As my wife used to say to me when I still drank beer "What are you fretting over $2 for....you don't hesitate to spend $14 a pop for 6 beers during a Cubs game at Wrigley".....her comment is always in the back of my mind in situations like this LOL
I think I'd enjoy doing taxes more if I could do them at Wrigley...

Cool, $23 plus whatever hidden costs they tack on later. Now I can do my part to support fraud bankrupting our country. Yay.
