Does it actually suck, or is it just not as good as the newer model that is more than the three times the price? I would sure hope that a newer model that costs so much more would be better, but not everybody has $180 to drop on headphones.

If you want sound quality and better bass and better battery life, the only choice is open run pro 2. This $50 deal on an old model lacks everything, but at least it will bring you some new experience of bone conduction is and how it might fit your lifestyle. On the flip side because it sucks with bad sound quality, some new users might get bad perception that bone conduction in general is not as good.

I have this old model and am happy with it. No, music doesn't sound great, but it sounds good enough for me; audiobooks sound great though, and you can hear things around you while using it as it doesn't block the ear canal. I haven't tried the newer models so I can't comment on their sound quality.

Compared to generic similar priced or cheaper, how are they? Walmart has a onn branded one for 56 for and a topconnection for under 30 for example.

All depends on use. OpenRun SE is 40% more than these but if your going to use mainly outside or for exercising I'd go OpenRun for the IP67 over IP65 durability and extra water resistance.

Agreed, have a pair that I use when walking the dog so I can be aware of my surroundings (like if someone is approaching from behind). I mostly use it for podcasts, music is okay-ish.
