Lidl (US), an Aldi's-like grocery store chain, has a precision electric screwdriver for $10 this week. Powered by two AAA batteries (included), built in light to illuminate work area. Metallic green color. Estimated run time "up to 200 minutes". About 7" long, 17mm/ 0.65" in diameter.

Lidl carries items like this each week, not restocked when sold out, but most items show up a few times a year. Not a sale price, but will only be in stock a week or so. Cheaper than better known brands, like iFixiit's $23 version of this.

They often have inexpensive, functional tools that work well enough, for home DIY'ers. Unfortunately not in al parts of the country yet. But if you are close to one, keep an eye on their tool offerings each week.

Nice deal if Lidl has expanded into your area. No such luck for me, yet.

I've found their products like this to be lower quality than even the typical Amazon Chinese brands. Not saying this one, specifically, is, but that's been my experience.

I haven't bought any of their power tools, but the Parkside "brand" hand tools are pretty much in line with Harbor Freight's Pittsburgh tools, or Hart from Walmart, Lowes Kobalt, etc. Light to medium duty DIY stuff. The Parkside stuff seems to be quite popular in Europe (see the Parkside reddit), has some avid fans. I have good luck with items have the Parkside brand. But at these prices, have to set expectations. If you buy Milwaukee, or HF Icon/Hercules tools, these obviously won't be anywhere close.
What items have you had problems with ? I've bought a few items, not Parkside, but "brands" that look similar to "as seen on tv" stuff, ie "super bright" flashlights that weren't, a disappointing cordless stick vacuum, etc. But not many problems.
This screwdriver seems solid, but only have had a few days.

Everything I've tried with their "silvercrest" brand (kitchen appliances) has been problematic. The mixer/egg beater motor caught fire on the first use. I tried a crepe pan, the "ceramic nonstick" was something plastic-like that started peeling off when washing. The gardening tools (spray nozzle and quick connectors) both leaked on day one.

Returns were a huge hassle, because I had removed things from their packaging, even though they were defective products.

I haven't purchased anything Parkside except a leather punch (that's fine) but I've had enough problems with enough of their products that I'm wary of anything with a motor...

Incidentally, I did buy a Kobalt string trimmer (wired electric) from Lowe's on clearance ($25). It's a pain to wind line for, but it has been basically indestructible under three years of heavy abuse, and can tear through everything up to and including blackberry bramble and mature rose of Sharon. I know there's a range of quality in the branded generic products, but that one was a winner.

Just curious, which returns were actually a hassle, besides no customer service desk? The vast majority of items that are a lidl brand have the item number branded into it, or on the clothing tag or on the ul sticker for the electric kettle I just checked. While I would whole heartedly stress the you get what you pay for line in the lidl non foods area, I have purchased a great many things that have been just as good as Walmart and Amazon no name items. One word to the wise, with a receipt, non food returns are no questions asked for 90 days, but recently all no receipt returns have been forced into store credit, generally also no questions asked at least.

The mixer - the one that caught fire - was certainly not "no questions asked". The store manager spent twenty minutes asking questions that bordered on interrogation. The garden sprayer was also a bit of a hassle. They flat out refused to refund the crepe pan. I decided it wasn't worth the $10 to contest it any further.

I'm not sure if it's just my local store, but I had no idea there was a no questions asked for 90 days policy, and I haven't experienced anything that made me think there was.

I don't want to go too far to defend the Parkside brand, but it the one Lidl brand (among their non food brands) that seems to have some name value. I feel like they put a little more effort into items with the Parkside brand, its still entry level stuff, but my experience has always been its "OK to leading edge of average" entry level stuff that matches items at HF, Lowes, etc, at almost unbeatable prices. Better than similar items on Amazon Haul.

The hose fittings I've seen at Lidl have all been plastic. I've never bought a plastic hose nozzle or quick connect fitting that wasn't annoying, I don't expect Lidl has any breakthrough technology for their plastic fittings, I don't get the plastic ones of any brand any more.

I did pick up a couple of $10 Silvercrest motion activated hand soap dispensers a few years ago. We got about 3 years out of one of them, which was ok, the other still working. Pretty happy with those. In general, Silvercrest (and Livarno) items I've purchased have been uninspiring, not terrible, typically mediocre to acceptable, not something so interesting I felt compelled to post about or suggest others consider.

Good to know. And, as I said, the leather punch (non powered, one of those multi-size wheel with a spring squeeze things) is fine, so I haven't had negative experiences with the Parkside brand, I just didn't realize it was anything better than the others. I do have a silvercrest kitchen scale that's been decent, though the included battery died within a month, but most of the non-food products I bought from them were trash, so I just stopped buying any of them.

Aldi, on the other hand... I've gotten some stuff from them that I absolutely love. Enameled stock pot, quick connectors (solid brass, they got me through last winter, this winter will be the real test), a couple of sprayers, SS grill tools, solar camping lights... not quite as cheap as the Lidl products, but still inexpensive, and generally much higher quality. Just... more esoteric, fewer generally useful things. More like the random things Ross used to have, before they started only selling the same Chinese garbage.

Got it at my local lidl today- they had about a dozen in store. Quality looks to be decent and it works well for computers and electronics that require low torque device.
I have had good experience with lidl devices. I bought their silvercrest induction cooktop about 1.5 years back and have been using it every day since to cook meals. It has been working great, and saved me much more than the $30 I paid for it because I have solar panels at home and the gas based cooktop in my kitchen would cost me about $5 a month in natural gas.
They sometimes also have coupons in lidl app, $5 off $30 or $10 off $75 etc. which made this deal even better.
