I bought the duo version of the temp spike over a year ago.
The bad: one of the two temp spikes went completely dead in less than a year. Wouldn't register at all in the booster, wouldn't start charging when placed in the booster, nothing.
The good: a few weeks ago I contacted customer support via e-mail, and after a few questions, they sent a brand new set, booster + 2 temp spikes. So now I have 2 boosters, 3 working temp spikes, and 1 broken one, and the customer support process was pretty painless.
From troubleshooting via Google searches, I get the sense these things are very persnickety and it's very important that the temp spike is submerged into the meat far enough (to the line) so that the spike doesn't overheat and break down inside. That means it might be difficult to use with certain meats (e.g., ribs or smaller/thinner cuts of chicken, etc.) that aren't thick enough.
TL;DR, the durability on these things doesn't inspire confidence, but apparently customer service will just throw new ones at you, so overall worth it?
