For ~$80 you can get a 24 pack of MREs. So we'll say $120 would get you 36 MREs. Each MRE would give you 1200 calories or more. So if you have one MRE per day, you are getting more calories than with the bucket. You will also get more variety, and have enough food for 36 days vs 28. If you eat two MREs a day, that is again more calories than you get with the bucket, and frankly two MREs is actually possible. Just open two packs each day, divide into three meals. You can likely eat a granola bar and some dessert item (like applesauce) for breakfast, probably even have a coffee. For lunch and dinner eat the entrees and whatever is left. Oh, and you have 18 days of food vs 14.
MREs actually taste decent, and we happily eat one on occasion for a regular meal (keeps them rotated). Also great for road trips.
These buckets have their place, just know exactly what it is, what you want it to do, and if there is anything else that can fulfill your needs better.
