This Walmart Verizon Galaxy S24 Ultra deal centers on a very low upfront price with immediate unlock potential after full payoff. The phone can be bought with just tax or a small in store payment, and the account setup has been quick when stock is available. Several reports say the device unlocks within about an hour after payoff, with Verizon corporate stores and cash payments helping the process. The main catch is timing, since some stores and the app block payoff until the first bill appears or about 30 days, and cancellation can trigger activation fee and final bill hassles. A strong low cost route if the payoff window lines up.
people buying an S24 Ultra at Walmart specifically to pay it off fast and get it unlocked right after payoff because multiple commenters said the phone unlocked immediately after full payoff with no waiting time (and in one case it showed unlocked within about an hour).
Verizon customers who can wait for their first bill to populate before attempting payoff because commenters reported corporate-store payoff worked once the account/line was showing the first bill (about ~18 hours delay), and trying earlier got blocked by the system.
buyers planning to move the device to US Mobile after unlocking because commenters said they paid off at a Verizon corporate store, canceled the lines, and then successfully moved the phones to US Mobile.
people who are okay paying off in-store with cash/debit because at least one commenter said the corporate store required cash for payoff and that was part of getting the unlock to happen.
people who want to pay off immediately the next day (or before the first bill shows) because several commenters said the store system blocked payoff until a later date or until the first bill populated, with one store showing payoff available on March 11th.
buyers who need guaranteed immediate unlock timing after payoff because multiple commenters reported unlock/payoff timing was inconsistent (some saw delays or had to wait for updates before the unlocked status appeared in settings).
buyers who don't have a payment method on their Verizon account because commenters reported eligibility/payoff could be delayed or complicated when there was no payment method on file.
people relying on chat to cancel lines and avoid activation-fee headaches because commenters said chat sometimes lacked the option to cancel and they had to call Verizon support instead.

I've already accepted that I'll probably have to pay ~$50-60 for their first bill when I go to cancel because I "used" their service for a few days, but I'd like to avoid the $40 activation fee by taking care of everything before the 3 day mark.
Does anyone know if this works on AT&T phones?
Thanks.
Paid at 4:42 my time, and checked the unlock status in the settings sometime around 5:00 - 5:10pm when I got home, and it's showing as unlocked. Going to try chat support after the Superbowl to cancel the line.
Long story short, do not try to go to the corporate Verizon store to pay it off in full until your account/line is displaying your first bill, otherwise it probably won't show up as being able to be paid off in their system at the store. Don't remember how long exactly it took for that to happen on my account; I'd say around 18 hours or so?

I then tried to cancel the line through chat, rep sent email of the disconnect request and asked me to click and complete but it showed 30 days after disconnect date.I asked rep to cancel it effective immediately, she said she took care of it for me and said I will get confirmaion email in 60 minutes, is that normal? i dont know how to verify its properly cancelled.
** update: I chatted again with a different agent and she was able to change disconnect date to today.
I dont know what went wrong with mine, I bought S24 Plus on Sunday around 3 pm and setup online account on Monday at 1 pm, it still shows "your bill is almost ready" online. I tried to pay off at a store but the rep said system is not allowing and even showed his screen to me it shows pay off will be available on March 11th.
When I went to cancel my line I was not able to do it through chat (it didn't even give me the option), so I had to call the support line. The rep I spoke to was very helpful & after his retention attempts, he helped me cancel the line while on the call, and said that I shouldn't be charged the activation fee since I was within the window, but if I did have an issue, to call back and they should be able to get it removed. Unsure if they will try to or not, because I'm within the 3 day window if they actually give 72 hours, but I did see one reddit comment saying they just go by the date, not hours, no matter what time you sign up or cancel. Unfortunately the phone rep couldn't tell me what my final bill was going to be, because we had just cancelled the line and it needed to calculate on the back-end.
Going to type out my basic timeline in case it helps anyone else:
02/06/26 - 10:08pm Bought the phone @ Walmart for $7.52
02/07/26 - ~4:30pm went to Verizon corporate to try to pay off the phone, was told system wouldn't let them and I had to wait 30 days
02/08/26 - 4:42pm paid off the phone at same corporate store after bill had populated on my account. Phone showed as unlocked in the settings screen (as detailed earlier in this thread) around the time I got home, which would've been ~20 or so minutes later. Definitely took less than an hour.
02/09/26 - ~9:15am called Verizon support to cancel the line within the 3 day window. Online account showed no line in service immediately after
02/12/26 - got a paper copy of the original $117.58 first bill in the mail
While typing this I tried logging in to the Verizon site and my login credentials no longer work, but the error message led me to a page where you can log in to cancelled mobile accounts using the number from the cancelled line. I can see the original bill of $117.58 still on there, but I clicked around and found a page where it says I owe $62.90 due on 03/02/26. I can't see a bill breakdown on the website for how they arrived at that amount, but I'll probably try giving the support line a call early next week to figure it out.

At what point during that timeline did the device get unlocked?
