Because they are basically the only big name game in town with a huge following. They already mentioned they are losing money on this and this quiet drop is mainly for the niche buyers that will buy it. Its likely just to test the appetite for this product at such a price. And bet your bottom dollar, Apple's foldable will be around this much too.
