I bought a different brand a few years ago, and they are game-changers for lighting candles. I've even used them to melt plastic ends of zip ties and shoelaces. Get the bendable gooseneck ones if you can find them.

Just ordered a set of the gooseneck kind -- 2 for $5.99 not bad.

I have stuff like these. Same lighter, not this brand. Good for candles and starting fires too. I've used them extensively to get a fire going when I was camping and to light a propane camp stove. They basically replace gas lighters for me as long as you don't use it for continuous light or smoking.

Are there any lighters like this that use AA or AAA batteries? I'd much rather use my own rechargable batteries than rely on their cheapo lithium ion batteries.

The batteries in these things degrade really fast. I bought three of them about eight months ago, and now almost all of them are struggling to light up the candle. They also need to be charged more frequently now. Do I recommend? Not really.
How much is a Bic lighter. These batteries will at least out last the life of a Bic. I wouldn't recommend if they were exapensive, but for this price they are definitely a buy.
