There are a lot of problems with Dell Latitudes these day - they're not the computers they were 6+ years ago.

The Type C connector for the power adapter is a major weak spot. It's soldered to the motherboard, but the connection is easily damaged. Once it's damaged, there's nothing you can do. With the older barrel adapters, there was a DC in-cable that also could fail (not often), but you could replace it.

The plastic they're using for the Latitude top & bottom case is very brittle. It's easily damaged. especially around the hinges and the air holes.

Some Latitudes - not all - have soldered RAM. You have to read the specs carefully over at Dell.com to determine whether this is the case.

Dell Refurbished also isn't delivering the same product they delivered 6+ years ago. I've received Latitudes from them in recent years with the fan caked with dirt. I returned two like this - they're not even making an effort to inspect the computers, let alone truly "refurbish" them.

I've experienced various other problems with these computers, although the problems with the Type C connectors for power failing has occurred in several.

I kept trying with Dell Latitudes probably long after I should have, but after a series of failures with several computers, I'm pretty much done with them. Cannot recommend them any longer.

Latitudes used to be very good - I'm still occasionally using a Latitude I got in 2016. It's slow, but it's solid. The plastic in the case isn't brittle - not breaking at all. I wish they were still built that well.

Looks like the laptop models with no OS do not work with the discount code.

I think the reason the code does not work is because the pricing already reflected the discount. Check today and the prices have all increased by 35%.

Is there anyway to tell how old the pc is before ordering? Date of manufacturing is what I'd be looking for to help gauge hold old the battery is. Two years vs four years can make a huge difference

I can only speak for the 3000 Latitude series. There's a couple different versions. One of these is definitely the plasticky build you are talking about. It's like a rebadged Inspiron in a sense. However a different nomenclature was definitely more sturdy and felt similar to past Latitudes that you describe and what I was used to for work. This was back in 2022 when they were bought off of Dell Outlet (not Dell Refurbished).

Otherwise, I agree that one of the Optiplex micro towers we purchased was dirty inside when we opened it to upgrade the RAM.

Also noticed with the last three computers we bought from the Refurb store - However they wipe the drive to re-install Windows, there are no drivers installed on the machines. What I find odd is that Windows would normally have something built-in for some basic things. The Ethernet / wifi won't work until you download them from Dell on another computer. This wasn't too much trouble, but it was just odd that they started to ship computers like that.

I chose one kind of at random, and it worked fine for me. Does 35% off and says good for any 5420.
