The Masterbuilt Gravity 800 is a charcoal smoker that stands out for long, steady cooks and strong value at this clearance price. It handles briskets and other long smokes well, can run for hours on one hopper, and the griddle gets praise too. The main cautions are durability and upkeep, with reports of controller failures, rust, firebrick wear, and grease fires if it is not kept clean. It also takes some care to light and maintain, so it feels like a solid bargain if you are comfortable with that tradeoff.

  • The grill can produce long smoke sessions for hours on a single hopper of charcoal.

  • Grease management improves when large aluminum pans are placed under the grates to catch drippings.

  • Some stores offer additional discounts beyond the clearance tag when purchasing in person.

  • The charcoal-and-pellet style can be used effectively for smoking over multiple years.

  • The electronic controller can fail and replacement units may not include Bluetooth support.

  • The unit can require careful cleaning to prevent grease fires and to avoid temperature drops below about 350.

  • Charcoal flavor can be weak, with more charcoal smell than flavor when juices do not hit the coals.

  • Interior metal can rust out quickly even when covered, with some experiences pointing to roughly two to three years.

I had one of these and HATED it.
After about 2 years, I eventually gave it away for free and went back to a gas grill. For one, mainly because getting it to light wasnt reliable, even using multiples of the masterbuilt firestarter blocks. It could be a 15-20 min process to get it lit. Eventually I got a propane blowtorch and that made starting it easier. Second, you dont get a good charcoal flavor from this. You get a charcoal smell. but not a lot of the flavor. As I learned after the fact, a lot of those charcoal flavors are from the fat and meat juices dripping off the meat onto the coals. When the firebox is offset, the juices dont hit the coals to create that effect.
It's a smoker not a grill Duh.

If they are local to the stores where the 70-75% off price is valid, good for them. I am not driving a few hours in 1 ft snow and -2 degrees F.

I would question the wisdom of driving to a location hours away in this weather.
I am not a wise man. My conspiracy theory is the weather is different everywhere. Call me crazy.

That site seems to be showing $225 for select locations. Just a quick glance appeared mostly northeast.

Read the reviews about the firebrick burning out and warranties not being awarded. Still seems like a great deal if you dont expect it to last forever. There are some near me on clearance, but im going to pass on this.
Those who complain about the firebrick don't understand that it's designed that way. The metal burns away intentionally. Been using mine that way for 5 years now. I'd jump on that for that price in a heartbeat.
