I don't have this one but I have had other grills that have experienced this problem (just not after the first year). From the one-star reviews:

"Rusted Out Completely
I bought one of the Mastbuilt Gravity smokers about 2 years ago and loved it the first year and a half, but over time the inside has COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT and is FALLING APART....literally. The concept is great, but with the cost of these smokers it should last longer than 2 years! I took care of the smoker very well also. Hate that it is now unusable! I even bought the 3 year warranty plan, but it's looking like it wont be covered which is absolutely ridiculous. Wish Masterbuilt would make it right somehow." by Trent3246

"The inside burned out in less than a season. Extremely disappointed in this company. This is basically theft selling a product like this." by Bad grill

I bought the one larger than this for $450 off marketplace. It's a FANTASTIC smoker. It's a pellet smoker but with charcoal. HOWEVER, it will rust out FAST even when covered all the time. For the $225 price it is worth it, but know it will rust out in about 2-3 years.

Crap, I was hoping it would never show up on here.
Don't worry, I'm sure SD staff will delete it as they probably don't want people advertising competitor websites.

I have one and would absolutely buy again especially at this price. I learned a few things that might help those experiencing problems. 1) You don't have to use firestarters, although they are convenient. You can use paper towels or anything that burns well to start it. The key though, is to ensure that the ash from the previous burn is cleared before removing the metal "slats" that let the fan blow into the chamber and smoke into the smoker, and lighing the starter. I use a poker to release the ash. If you do this, it'll start much better and keep ash and charcoal from getting into the fan.

I really like the griddle on the 800 too. i do think the interior metal rusts pretty bad, but I've had rust issues with the other grills I've had that i kept covered too. I don't know that this one is any worse. i like it enough that I've been thinking of buying some mods. Good luck to those who want one.

This is a deal that will never, ever happen at my Home Depot in Erie, PA. The employees and their friends and family would buy all of them before it was ever available to the public.

Just sharing what I did... I buy the large aluminum pans from Sam's and place under the grates to catch grease and little to no mess. I haven't had any grease fires since then. Also check out this site to help reinforce some of the standard parts https://www.lss-mods.com. I've had mine for years and love it for long smokes i.e. briskets
Same here, I have enjoyed this unit for years. I primarily use it for smoking.

Read the reviews about the firebrick burning out and warranties not being awarded. Still seems like a great deal if you dont expect it to last forever. There are some near me on clearance, but im going to pass on this.
while your at it .... google the electronic controller going bad .. you could not give me another one of these pieces of garbage if you drove it to my house and set it up... not only is masterbuilt a piece of junk their customer service is a bunch of scum bags.. If i ever travel through Georgia.. i am going to make it a point to stop by there
