If it is true, why not the bedroom be the best place to plug?

Because bedrooms are typically larger-sized rooms and would need a bigger unit

if its actually producing ozone, thats harmful to your health. typically you do not want to be around any ozone generators
i believe it varies per person, but yes, some do get negatively affected.
What it is really harmful to are pets, especially birds.

I just went through an entire research rabbit hole on which air purifier to buy that is parrot-safe, and found that air purifiers that use UV light, typically create an ozone with the wavelengths

Does it release ozone I wonder? Otherwise doubt it changes smell
The inside of this small unit seems to contain a small circuit board, uv bulb, and small blower that pushes the air over the lightbulb. The bulb in this unit appears to be 253.7nm wavelength, or non-ozone producing range. I hope this helps.

"Some air purifiers with UV light can produce ozone, while others do not. Specifically, devices using a 185 nm wavelength for ozone-producing UV create this gas, whereas those using a 254 nm wavelength (UV-C germicidal) generally do not."

wonder how effective on killing the virus?
Personally I don't need my room air to be that clean as it makes me more allergic to outdoor enviornment -- learned this during COVID time. But killing flu virus is an attractive point to me.

I've used these, and they do work to remove smells. I actually used it once in a confined box with a book that had a cigarette smell and it took away the smell. As for purifying a room it will clean up the smell of a room, but you do smell a little ozone if you're right next to it. I'd use it in a large or mostly unoccupied room, or use it overnight and then vent the room out before you occupy it again. One thing about Ozone is it can kill mold but it can also combine with the molecules and produce halide byproducts which are also harmful. It doesn't necessarily create a "healthier" space, just a cleaner smelling one. I'd opt for an activated carbon air filter in most cases for health.

I wouldn't use it for that, I'd recommend an air filter instead. It does give off an ozone smell when you're next to it.

Lol no way this does anything
You are correct, modern equivalent of snake oil. I have seen tear downs of devices like these that are literally just an LED that you plug in, the rest is all in your head.
Best case scenario is that they are technically working, but on such a small scale that it effectively makes no real-world difference and again, placebo takes care of the rest.
People will never stop falling for garbage like this. It's incredibly sad.

Air passes a UV light, UV light kills bacteria etc. It does work, but it isn't going to keep a large space bacteria free. It will reduce it. 2 in a bedroom when someone is sick or if you have mold from AC units or something, this will help (depending on room size). It uses the higher wavelength which they claim has no ozone.

I'd go with the latter explanation. It probably sanitizes the air within 1 inch of the vent.

Both UV-C and ozone are EXTREMELY harmful to health, causing both acute damages in short periods of time. Under repeated use, they can also cause cancer.
