Indeed.

Amazon's price history indicates this is the cheapest price in 90 days. But, before January(ish), the price was only $15.99 - nowhere near $27.

I've read that these are great for smart locks... but if your smart locks are wifi, I don't think it'll do much. You'll want zwave or zigbee where it wont' drain as much battery as wifi smart locks.
I have home assistant and will be getting these and AAs for them once i use up the rest of my batteries.

I find that the Ikea rechargeable AA's are just as good and cheaper. May also be rebadged eneloops.

It's been this unit price for weeks. I bought some for around $1.87/battery around Black Friday. I think I saw it once for around $1.83/battery since then, but it's usually been $1.87/battery

yeah, consider zwave or zigbee, it'll drain less battery. Mine lasted 11/12 months before I had to replace them. also, these two are a bit more secured than wifi.. if you care about security.
