I'm not going to spend several hundred dollars for a pro to do it. If you spend that amount of time watching TV, then go for it. I'm not addicted to TV enough to spend that much money on it. Calibrating it to what Rtings suggests is enough of an improvement over out of the box is sufficient enough for the average consumer!

It's a great TV. Until this unit, we used to just buy the largest unit for the lowest price. The difference in picture and color are definitely noticeable compared to cheaper models. It's great value.

The problem is that most TV buyers are ignorant of how to calibrate a TV! Most Tvs are horrendously bad out of the factory. Rtings.com is great on how to calibrate a TV out of the box. It's not difficult to do. My son complained about a tv he bought, and when I told him to go to this website and calibrate, he was amazed at the difference!

Own this exact model. After upgrading to latest firmware (android 14), this TV is great value. PQ is pretty damn good for 1k. Even my friend who owns LG Oled was impressed.

Except that even using Rtings settings is not actually calibrating. That's just changing settings. Actual calibrating requires expensive calibration tools that go deeper into the TVs settings and allow more advanced adjustments. When you go lower on any Rtings page, it shows a pre-calibration and post-calibration score. Those scores aren't reflective of just changing your TV's settings to Rtings' settings. Those scores after professionally doing a deep dive into the TV with a calibration tool. Changing the basic settings is definitely something everyone should do, but it's not the same thing as calibrating. If you have a nice TV, it's worth it to get professional calibration.

While the 7 is a great tv, I'd spend a little more and get the 8. Prices for these will continue to drop and the 8 and 9 mini led compete fairly well against OLED sets

At the 8's price point you might as well go ahead and get an OLED like an LG B5 or similar.
