This Legion Pro 5i pairs a 16 inch 1600p OLED 165 hertz display with an RTX 5070, and the standout appeal is the screen. The OLED gets praised for deep blacks, around 500 nits of brightness, and an overall excellent picture, while the chassis is described as reasonably quiet and well cooled for the GPU. The main concerns are the 8 gigabytes of VRAM and 16 gigabytes of system RAM, which can feel tight at native 2560 by 1600 and are not easy to justify upgrading later. It looks strongest as a premium gaming laptop where display quality matters most.
The OLED panel delivers very dark blacks and around 500 nits brightness for strong contrast in games.
The RTX 5070 laptop configuration can still run most games well when used on the laptop screen.
The deal pairs OLED with an RTX 5070, which can be a compelling spec combination for gaming.
Frame generation can noticeably improve perceived smoothness on this class of Legion hardware.
The 8GB GPU VRAM can run out more often at 2560x1600 native resolution, especially in newer games.
The 16GB system RAM can become a limiting factor, and aftermarket upgrades may be difficult during high RAM pricing.
The laptop may struggle more when pushing performance to an external monitor compared with gaming on the built-in display.
The RTX 5070 laptop uses a 5060 die and VRAM, so desktop RTX 5070 performance expectations may be unrealistic.

However, the Pro version is unnecessary with a 5070 IMO. I would either get the lighter thinner non pro with same specs or step up to a 5070 TI to make it worth the additional bulk.
Might also be worth stepping up to 32gb ram, with the current shortages and crazy aftermarket prices. I paid about $1500 (before cash back) for the more premium 7i with the higher tier Ultra 9 275HX, same 5070, and 32GB DDR5 last October. The ram upgrade alone would cost an additional $200+ on the market today.
I've been using my Legion quite a bit to get my money's worth!
So I was in a similar spot to you. Had a Legion Pro 5 with a 3070 and a 5800H. I was expecting to want to upgrade around next Christmas, maybe a year from now. I moved that up to now though because while a 3070 to a 5070 wasn't a HUGE jump, I knew I would need something in a year, and with the supply issues and ram issues, I wasn't interested in buying in a year when every prebuilt system's price has adjusted for the new ram pricing. My Legion 5 cost 1200~ and the 32 GBs of ram alone on the secondary would be 350. Absolute nonsense.
Also the new oled screens are incredible. Also seconding the person who mentioned the non pro with a 5070. 4.4 lbs 15.1" Oled and only the non pros have rear power this round with Legion.

Def a warm machine, not super loud though. Not high pitch whine I've heard people said about other high power laptops.
Every review I have seen says this machine does great on temp. Check notebookCheck for good reviews that go in depth on build quality and the like if you care to. Just google the model+year+notebookcheck.
As for the other person who respondoed to you, the 5090 is a totally different animal than a 5070 in laptop. Massive massive difference on heat output.
