Community Reviews
This Legion 5 stands out as a strong value for a high end gaming laptop, with the Ryzen 9 9955HX, RTX 5070, 32GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD drawing praise against comparable systems that usually start much higher. The 16 inch QHD plus 165Hz OLED display and rear power and HDMI ports add to the appeal, along with the lighter non Pro chassis and convenient dock support through the USB C port with power delivery. The main tradeoffs are battery life, which is expected to be under 3 hours and can drop fast under GPU load, and a huge 400W charger that makes it less portable. It looks best as a desktop replacement with premium specs and a sharp screen.
PC gamers who want a desktop-replacement setup because you can expect the RTX 5070 + very powerful Ryzen 9 CPU to run hard, and commenters say not to count on long unplugged time since it's meant to stay near power.
Buyers who want a strong value on high-end specs because community members say comparable configurations usually start around $1600, making the ~$1247 price feel like an unusually good deal.
People who care about rear connectivity for durability because commenters specifically prefer rear power + HDMI to reduce the chance of damage from side ports getting pulled or squeezed while the laptop sits on a couch or gets bumped by kids/pets.
Users who plan to dock or use external peripherals via USB-C because commenters ask whether the USB-C port with power delivery can attach a dock (example: Caldigit).
People who need long battery life for on-the-go use because commenters report battery runtime dropping to about 1 hour left when unplugged under GPU load, and they expect sub-3-hours (possibly sub-2) overall.
Travelers or anyone who hates carrying heavy chargers because community members call the power brick huge and note the laptop/400W charger can be hard to carry around.
Buyers who are upgrading from a recent Legion with similar RTX 5070 specs because one commenter says they already bought a Legion Pro 5 with Ryzen 7 AI 350 + RTX 5070 and 1TB for the same price last month, so this may not feel uniquely better for them.
Gamers who are mainly focused on incremental GPU performance over a close alternative because one commenter suggests the jump to RTX 5070 over 5060 may offer little advantage if 8GB VRAM becomes the bottleneck.

Personally I like the Legion 5 non pro more this generation. 4.4 lbs for a .9" screen drop is insane, and power+HDMI out the rear is so convenient compared to the sides. Wish these still had almost all the ports in the rear like my Gen 7 Legion Pro 5 did. Main difference on the processor is if you want as much power as you can at the cost of more heat+noise and crap battery life. the 350 gets 6+ hours with the screen at a decent brightness doing stuff. This is like under 3 hours. Single core speeds are pretty close, and neither CPU will bottleneck a 5070 so as far as gaming goes you shouldn't see much difference in most use cases either.
Also apparently the Pro 5 doesn't have a USB4 40 Gbps port? Pretty sure the non pro does which is weird.

Yeah, though the build quality on the Legion 5 Pro has been downgraded some. Bottom is plastic now not metal and honestly the rigidity of the chassis on the non pro feels less flexible. Probably because it weighs over a lb less.
On the cooling note, even when benchmarking I haven't seen any heat issues on my non pro 5070. No comment on the hinges.
Talking about longevity (that is why I care about build quality) power out the back and HDMI removes one of the bigger sources of damage in my experience. Namely that power ports tend to degrade if on the side because they regularly get pulled or squeezed while sitting on the couch for instance. Or pulled off a table instead of just out of the back when a kid/animal wanders by.
Really wish they had rear ports on the pro this year, would have gone with a 5080, but rear power+Video is a non negotiable for me now.
And yeah this deal is nice. So is the 5080 for under 2k.
