Sick and tired of lending your expensive phone to your complaining grade school kid while waiting in line or at the restaurant? Buy them this for $40 before tax. It works on WiFi and no need to buy service. Just enable your hotspot to give it WiFi. Otherwise, you'd have to wait a year for this to unlock so that you can purchase a reasonable plan on Tello, Mint, or US mobile. I'm assuming in months 2-12, a $40 a month plan or higher is required for service within the year. This phone can be bought for $180 before tax on Amazon. If you do the math, Metro will recoup the cost in about five months and the rest is mostly profit in months 6 through 12. Most people won't go through the hassle of changing or reducing their plans at month 12 so most likely metro will make even more money!

I want to buy this for my son who is already on my plan. If I buy this for $40 with a new number, can I then swap his metro sim in and use it with his original number?
It won't let you. The systems gonna flag it if you already got two phones from them and are still on their plan.

No they don't need to be unlocked. I have purchased several for my grandchildren who use them like tablets with wifi.
I recently got a trackphone from Walmart just to stream music to Bluetooth speakers in my office. I love it! Wish I had thought of doing it sooner.

Went with a $29 2025 Moto G Power 64gb with 8gb ram. I don't want 4gb ram ever again.

Gee, phones used to unlock after 60 days. I guess the same people who tried to abolish the CFPB got their hands in this, too.

You don't have to buy anymore service after the first month.
Just pay the $40 and tax for the phone and the first month, no need to stay with the plan at all.
Make sure that you don't have autopay set up and it will just expire, you can do whatever you want with the phone, wait until the year and get it unlocked. should unlock on its own at the year.
