Honesty though; I don't think people have patience anymore for games. Like it has to be instant dopamine hits to keep their attention span. Husband and I loved all of them so far! Story, voice and music was all very enthralling. We also like Dragon Quest as well. (Although currently playing the 1-2 remake and forgot how simplistic the original stories were compared to dq5+. OG DQs are so much more droning/grindy than Octopath..)

I'm playing 1 right now, I feel the same, many stories and dialogue are just boring, I end up just skipping them and look at story summary.

Given that they're offering zero Switch 2 upgrade path for Switch 1 physical, I'd hold out for a much lower price. Octo II was under $30 on many occasions.

Good for you. To me 0 is more like a DLC. Not a bad game, but just plain. 1 was somewhat crude, but it was a good start.

Played many a RPG with my first one being Final Fantasy, just finished FF VI pixel remaster. Octopath Traveler 1 had a pretty boring story and had absolutely no depth in its characters, and it ham-fisted their storylines into combining. Not sure about the next two, but having played lots of games which did a great job at bringing together divergent storylines, I found it pretty boring and not engaging. I remember nothing of the storyline

Octo 1 was definitely the weakest of the three. But I mean.. comparing it to a DQ 1, 2 and 3 as less than rather than different sides of the same coin just isn't so. The combining of their storylines wasn't super streamlined but separately was absolutely normal for a regular rpg game.

But obviously nothing can compare with a storyline of FF4 and 6+. FF1-3 were the same as early DQ in the sense of Hero>Party>Bad Guy, no actual deep story either.
