Don't bother. They've started to ban accounts & addresses who do "the hack", which is nothing more than a pro-rated return.

The ban the entire address from being able to make online order or to receive online orders.

Long story short, my brother bought a M12 driver hackable combo back in October. He did the return, and PROMPTLY we all started to have issues.

I can't place orders online, neither can my brother or father. We can't have a neighbor ship anything to our address. Doesn't matter if it's with a credit card or gift card.

Also, any credit card that was once used in conjunction with this address was also banned from making any online orders -- including a work-owned credit card Dad has with a construction company he works for. They were furious for about a week, wondering why they couldn't buy anything online to ship to client sites. They had to make an entirely new HD account with a previously unused CC.

After talking to HD online, which they were VERY non-transparent about this issue, they said they will allow us to make online orders....but only if we make them in-store at their service desk. Nearest HD is about an hour away. They "reserve the right to deny business to anyone for any reason, and it's final, no warning, no appeal, and we don't have to explain why."

It wasn't until we did a LOT of digging around, piecing things together, when we figured out it was for taking advantage of "the hack".

There's a reason why HD has the nickname "Home Despot."

Another data point here. Happened to me. They ban the whole mailing address which includes your household.

Wow that's really unfortunate. Approximately how many hacks did you use over what period of time?

This happened over a year ago now. I had my account for about 7 years. I did ~5 hacks in a matter of 2 years. From my recollection.

There has to be more to it because I've done more than 5 "hacks" in a single day

The issue at the end of that day was not how many. It was the no information, no warning, no appeal ban.

I wish I could share what the algorithm was. But I am glad you are asking for data points.

Might've been the total amount they did? Or the location? This seems odd. It feels like they're profiling people even.

Oh well, no more business going to Home Depot. C'est la vie.

If Home Depot knows about the hack they should patch or rectified the hack and make it not work anymore rather than ban accounts
