This seems like a great deal on a solid immersion blender, but does anyone else worry about the plastic bell? Putting plastic directly into hot liquids feels a bit off.

It's always the same or similar price on eBay. Is this the best handheld blender one can get?

not the best, but the best are $250+ from a company called bamix and those are very nice but never on sale and just designed for every day/multiple times per day use, i.e restaurant

Yeah, plastic in hot liquids is a non-starter for me. This immersion blender has a ton of power, and all the food you are blending is going to be brushing against that plastic as you blend. That is a recipe for creating microplastics.

The same goes for their blenders. I have Vitamix's steel carafe and am happy with it, but plastic blender containers are a bad idea for the same reason.

If they made a stainless immersion blender I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Material: Glass-filled nylon (BPA-free).
  • Purpose: Protects cookware from scratches.
Don't know if that makes it safer or anything for food contact, but that's the info.

Big issue I have with most immersion blenders is unsealed shafts which allow water to enter the shaft from both ends and is very difficult to dry fully which leads to mold and mildew in the shaft. Only fully sealed immersion blenders I've seen are $250+ and are for more commercial kitchens. This one seems like it might have a seal on the bottom, but reading through the owner's manual indicates that it is still an issue overall. see below from manual:

NOTE: Ensure no water remains inside the blending shaft to avoid water running into the motor body when reattached.
NOTE: The immersion blender is not dishwasher safe.
NOTE: DO NOT allow the blending wand to soak in water for long periods of time.

Waring makes a similar size "commercial" immersion blender. The stick is fixed and not removable. I have one and it works great. To clean i just stick it in soapy water and turn it on.

the Cuisinart with similar attachments was $35 on Woot last month and was metal. this is a blatant ripoff and plastic.

The Wirecutter top pick for immersion blenders is the Braun MultiQuick 7. I own and it's great. Stainless head.
Many of these blenders come with a whole bunch of useless extra attachments, but seems hard to avoid that. They want to turn these into do-everything products, but the kind of customer that wants them probably already has a blender(s), mini chop and food processor…

This a good deal and the same set sells for $199 on Amazon. I got a different one for the holidays for a similar deal with QVC but this lower. A lot of the reviews on Amazon are mixed including items over $100. There's was better and it comes with a 3 year warranty too.
