The consensus seems to be that each Ah should be ~$10 and the high output batteries are slightly more expensive per Ah.

This pricing seems to be right on the money.
I neither needed nor wanted these batteries until I saw your post. Thanks a farkin lot OP.

Really good deal compared to recent deals. Off the top of my head, the way source 5ah ho deal late last year during the Xmas sales was 60ea, then 65 a few weeks later.

Is there any reason I'd need an M18 setup over an m12 like this? I don't think I really care about weight. But I'm not sure if my home-based tool usage needs 6more volts of power. I'm wondering did I should get these or give up on my 1 m12 drill-- which was to be the start of a wider wireless tool collection-- and get into the m18 space instead.

Most of the m18 are more powerful than their m12 counterparts, but at the expense of size and weight (and price.) If you're using them professionally, the m18 is nice, for home use m12 is usually more than enough. I tend to get the "Fuel" versions which are the more powerful, higher spec versions of the same tool. Some tools are only available in m12 or m18.

If you're doing work around the house, automotive or maintenance type of items, you don't need M18 at all/as well. Id roll with the M12 fuel tools and not think about it anymore. I have been more than satisfied with my M12 items and rarely use M18 unless I'm doing something where I'd be switching bits repetitively (electrical or auto) Where I would break out the M18 as a spare. My M12 fuel impact drives the spade bits through old wood just as good as the plain M18; and the 3/8" m12 impact takes lugs off cars, etc if I need more I'm in over my head or need to jump up to a fuel m18 1/2" impact, but its bulky and tough to fit like a typical air impact. Bosch 12v is also great.

Mostly shadetree and homeowner here but I do work on a lot of farm equipment and I'm on both M12 & M18. Sounds like you will only need M12 unless you want to get into more oddball job specific tools.
If you're going to be an occasional user and just want more voltage, get into the Rigid line. If you're local to a home depot I'd just stick to them because their price and warranty makes it very attractive.
