I have some m12 stuff. Was told the m18 stuff was "too heavy" for easy use.

Poppycock. Get the m18 stuff. I've used it at friends places. More expensive but worth it on sale like this. Especially for non-pros/home DIYers

I have both, and depending on usage and duration both have their strengths. I love the M12 impact drill. Very light and powerful and useful for long jobs of installing shelving and closets. Also have used my M12 oscillating tool for various tasks. The M12 grease gun is a great tool as well.

Love my M18 nailers, sander, and saws.
