  • About the game:
    • Despite a paralyzing sense of personal danger, your quest for truth drives you to investigate the old house. But, you didn't know that, by entering Derceto, you'll be plunged into the daily nightmare that was Jeremy Hartwood's life. You weren't prepared for the torturous howls that resound from deep within its halls. You didn't foresee the shadowy corridors that seemingly have no end. You couldn't anticipate the brooding, gloom-filled rooms, the pervasive weight of dread, the heavy sense of evil that gills the atmosphere and the very house itself..
    • The grand-daddy of survival horror genre
    • A memorable soundtrack, excellent voice acting, and a thrilling story will keep you hooked for hours
    • Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's universe, where ancient evils of unimaginary power play with human lives
    • Includes Jack in the Dark bonus adventure

Incredible games all 3. This was the game that inspired resident evil.

I remember watching my neighbor play Alone in the Dark in the 80s and wondering what it was. Never played it and now I have a chance to!

The link did not work, however by going to gog.com I was able to find the Alone in the Dark Trilogy 1+2+3 and once I clicked on the Giveaway button (after logging in), I was able to claim the game and it was added to my library.
A bit confusing, but hey - a free game.

I remember playing the first game in the early 1990s off the CD-ROM voiced issue back when CD-ROM was still a bit rare. It was amazing but even at the time the (very) early 3D graphics were janky. These days it's a milestone in history and is generally acknowledged as the origin of the survivor horror genre but it's definitely an adjustment to play. Worth playing if interested.
2 and 3 are a bit of diminishing returns I'm afraid. 3 especially wasn't very good.
That said, free is free.

I remember being a kid and playing it at my friends house since he had a pentium and my house was still sporting a 486. Near the beginning, the zombie bursting through the window in the bedroom scared the crap out of me.

Ahh the memories.

Kids these days won't know the "joys" of having to edit and troubleshoot multiple times .sys/.ini/.bat files just to get a game to run on a 386 or 486 machines. If I remember correctly we could never get it to run on a buddy's 286 system. It ran but was not great on a 386, and it ran like "butter" lol on my 486 with I think epic 4MB of RAM (I think I went to 8MBs a year after Alone in the Dark)..

Last I tried to replay the game was probably around 2010 and it definitely did not hold up, but my god the memories of playing this originally will be with me forever.

Yes! I knew I couldn't be the only one. I remember being genuinely terrified by this game as well as amazed by its cutting edge (so I thought) graphics.
