I have this scanner. It works well for creating textured 3d models, but does not have the precision for creating 3D printable models or for reverse engineering.

Maybe if you're just looking to make organic shapes. I tried to make some basic car parts and it was insufficient. Ended up with a Revopoint MetroX.

Before you go spending money on this try some of the 3D photogrammetry/scan apps for your cell phone. Some work better than this thing, especially if you have one of the iPhones with a depth sensor. I used "Scaniverse", IIRC, about 3 months back using a friend's iPhone Max and it worked well beyond my expectations. I dusted the all-black part with some talcum powder before scanning.

Obligatory question: is there any limit to the size ferret this thing can scan?

Yes and no. You would have to do multiple scans for large items and combine the point clouds in software.

Just ended up returning a CR Ferret.
It was good enough for a quick scan as a reference to completely reverse engineer and re-model something from scratch with rough details.
I wouldn't expect to scan anything and print without significant human effort in post-processing. Really a HUGE jump between here and even ~$600 RevoPoint Inspire/PoP.
In the end it was a novelty that saved me playing with calipers for and doing an initial drawing and measurements, but that just wasn't worth it for me.

Please Note: The limited-stock flash sale price of $179 has ended; you can still get it at the current promotional price of $199. Thank you for your support.

Waste of money. You are better off using your iphone to scan objects. It is more accurate and easy to use.

Even better, learn how to use calipers.

Wait - so you're saying scanning and making prints of items isn't useful for this? That's its primary purpose, and the whole reason I'd buy one.
It can it is just a skill issue !

I have one of these and was able to use the scanned model to reverse design what i needed. It is not as accurate as the more expensive scanners but its pretty good for the price. This has a pretty limited size of the object you want to scan, not too small it will not pick it up, and too large it gets lost when scanning. I would say a person is as big as you want to scan, and a mug is about as small. There are tricks to get better results but its pretty tricky. Dont get the wifi bridge, i found connecting to a computer to be way faster and more accurate. I have the Pro and i would have just gotten the regular instead for cheaper.
larger items you have to use locator dots with the item so it doesn't get lost how is it supposed to track a large area with no details? amazon.com/612-Pcs-6mm-Scanning-Marker/dp/B0F6N6Z7V6/ref=sr_1_4?crid=W06LTXV54MBV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6Cuz1GNRf7DqYQ72s9ZlMeWkVXyTpU1oPFwW9-VV__-6yXXXe0u9pYFOnetYfDwBQtUWJuiAo1uTe_8BG77J1lQbrDhaq8KnITD7Lfx50rehPbVmAjmf4pzLWvLQPwUBoM3iYDL6HdiVRxSzOktHxvTcZREkNnMJIxtQ76pwHvhgkrk4jeDjdXlSjQw7ktX8UNkfYq8K-PiLhqGBqk8TjWrCpFLchVN_NfaB2fqSiCY.0vLt4Lnct7ZEqdQd56mkpvbdizbFpalH9Al_f8HgLkc&dib_tag=se&keywords=3d+scanning+dots&qid=1770254072&sprefix=3d+scanning+dot%2Caps%2C191&sr=8-4 use these!
