If you shuck it and put it into an NVMe port it's slower than using the box. And you can't use the box for other NVMe ssds.

It's way faster than any sata SSD and people still use those. So long as you're not using it as a OS drive, you should be fine. I picked up a couple to use either as external storage (Think giant flash drive), or to shuck a couple to throw in my 2nd nvme slot.
