How much better is this compared to the popular Logitech g923?

Not the same category. The Fanatec has a Direct Drive motor and is upgradeable.

It used to be cheaper before the price increase, it's a better deal than moza r5 since you can change the brick to upgrade to 8nm and it comes with a better wheel. Idk about software support, I like mozas. (Bought the r5 last week off trakracer which came in 2 days lol, wouldve definitely gotten this for 150 more)

Those wheels are good for trying the hobby to see if you like the games with wheel controls over controller, they are basically children's toys tho. Even in arcade games, these will give a better experience, very customizable and like 5x the max torque.

Simracing isn't realistic imo but it is immersive, you feel like you can fully control the digital car in the digital world.

From my cursory reading, this is a good starter for the "higher end" racing experience. How is it upgradeable?
