Not the same category. The Fanatec has a Direct Drive motor and is upgradeable.

It used to be cheaper before the price increase, it's a better deal than moza r5 since you can change the brick to upgrade to 8nm and it comes with a better wheel. Idk about software support, I like mozas. (Bought the r5 last week off trakracer which came in 2 days lol, wouldve definitely gotten this for 150 more)

Those wheels are good for trying the hobby to see if you like the games with wheel controls over controller, they are basically children's toys tho. Even in arcade games, these will give a better experience, very customizable and like 5x the max torque.

Simracing isn't realistic imo but it is immersive, you feel like you can fully control the digital car in the digital world.

From my cursory reading, this is a good starter for the "higher end" racing experience. How is it upgradeable?

You can swap the wheel for various styles, such as an advanced Formula rim or branded options like Porsche or BMW. You can also add a clutch to the pedal set or upgrade to more realistic load‑cell pedals. Additionally, there's a Boost Kit that unlocks the Direct Drive motor to its full 8Nm of power, and you can always find mods or aftermarket parts on AliExpress.

Thank you. It sounds like I'll just wait and jump straight to this. Probably holds the value better too.

Eh, Im not sure about the wheel being better. Its pretty cheap feeling and the paddle shifters are notoriously bad. Super mushy and bendy. The moza also has the upgradable rim on the ES wheel and the better quick release. The only advantage of the fanatec is the boost kit.
